Anyone know how Corvallis compares to Bandon? Its very tough making a good living in Bandon.

Yep, it's true--Corvallis sure ain't the way it used to be.

I grew up on the opposite bank of Marys River from Avery Park. Corvallis should have bought this property, as an annex to the park, when my family sold it. (I guess it would have required a footbridge.) My mom, as a member of the Garden Club, helped plan and build the rose garden.

Born (1940) and raised in Corvallis. I hiked up Marys Peak from the north when I was about 11. I remember Woods Creek Road and something about a Knights of Pythias cabin. About an hour's drive from Corvallis, the peak is a beautiful place to take out of town visitors. You can see Cascade peaks from Rainier down to Diamond, if it's clear enough.

As someone who has lived in Corvallis for the last 5 years, I feel compelled to offer the following advice. If you are thinking about relocating here, be advised that the cost of living will require you to have a decent-paying job. And by decent paying I mean making at least 25 dollars an hour. You can thank housing prices for that. Otherwise life will be difficult. I'm speaking from personal experience.

Oregon income tax is roughly 9% and expect to pay a high property tax. Our new Governor and Democrat-controlled legislature have proposed a 31% increase in income tax. Expect to pay around $5000 a year in property tax on a $500,000 home if you can find one for that price. Corvallis is also the most expensive place to live in Oregon.
